When Alley started her senior year at Upper East High in the South Hills area, it was supposed to be the usual drag of hanging out with people who spent more on one outfit than Alley did on her entire wardrobe. That was until Kirsten, a girl in their clique, suddenly goes missing and the only people who seem to care are her friends. All evidence leads to the new comer Shane, a cocky and self-pretentious person in Alley’s opinion, but the police seem uninterested so she and the rest of the girls start a little investigation of their own. But they are nowhere closer to finding Kirsten than when they started and now they had the police’s attention; just not in the way they expected. The girls have to start over and discover that maybe it wasn’t an outsider who took Kirsten, but someone within their own clique who has something to hide; a secret that just might have gotten Kirsten killed.
Uninvited is Mean Girls meets 21 Jump Street !
Let me start by saying this is not my typical read. I tend to lean towards Urban fantasy and Paranormal Romances, so this is my first attempt at YA Chick Lit. I enjoyed the lighter pace of the book. In Uninvited, our miss matched clique of girls are trying to find their missing friend and put the clues together together to find the kidnaper / potential murderer. Even though we are dealing with kidnappings and missing people this book was a light and fun read. Over all I liked the book, it kept a good pace and it was a welcoming break from some of the more serious dramas I was reading.
Plot: The plot was good, I enjoyed the determination the girls had for finding their friend, and Shane's involvement , however I would have liked a little more of an "Ah-Ha" moment when the kidnaper was revealed, and I would have liked to know more about Shane.
Characters: I loved our group of determined divas. I can totally picture Val out there in pumps and all glittered up trying to take down a perp. Shane and Alley are awesome. These characters came off very relatable and likable. I do not feel like I really got to know our group of boys very well.
Cover: I usually am a big fan of simple and bold covers , but I am just not a fan of the girl on the cover ( specifically her face ) after reading Uninvited I think a bejewled phone .. or a sliteto and mace would be more fitting.. something to really show how diva-ly determined these girls can be.
For Fans of : Pretty Little Liars. Mean Girls. 21 Jump Street .. and a whole lot of abc family / disney / nick movies about teenagers in high school solving crimes!
Although we moved down to North Carolina several years ago, we’re originally from the Pittsburgh area. (That’s why a lot of our characters either live in the Burgh or reference our hometown football team, The Pittsburgh Steelers.) And yes, we even have the Southern accents to show for it now. Although Megan’s is considerable thicker, Leah still can’t understand the locals.
