Book Tour: Breathe by Elena Dillon

Promo & Guest Post

Breathe by

Elena Dillon

Genre: Young Adult Romantic Suspense

Cover Artist: Alexa Dillon

Jasmine’s life wasn’t normal for a 16 year old girl. It hadn’t been normal since the murder of her older sister, Daisy, two years ago. Her life had been changed forever. The monster that murdered Daisy was never caught. That was the reason her family decided to move away from their hometown in Southern California, to start over. Hopefully in a place where the last name Rourke wouldn’t bring on staring or judgment or morbid curiosity.

In Lafayette, Louisiana things are quite a bit different but in a good way. Good manners, Cajun accents and a whole lot of Southern Hospitality all make her think things are going in the right direction. On top of that the most gorgeous boy she has ever met is interested in her. Her new friends are better than she could have hoped for even if she is worried about what they might think when they find out who she is. Life would be perfect if odd things didn’t keep happening. Creepy phone calls, texts, and flowers in her locker start adding up quickly to something terrifying. Could the Monster have followed them to Lafayette? Was he coming after her this time? Maybe she was just worrying unnecessarily…or not.

5 Reasons Why Reading the Book is Better than Seeing the Movie

I know I am probably preaching to the choir here because this is a book blog but it needs to be said and said often.  Our society is getting lazy.  So many of my friends will say to me when I tell them what I am reading  “I’ll just wait for the movie to come out.”  Really?  I don’t know what the appeal is to waiting. The book is always better. (Okay the Dear John movie was better than the book but I think that was because of Channing Tatum).  So here are my reasons for always reading the book first.
  1. I will always get more information on the back story when I read the book. Example: Phantom of the Opera. The book gave so much more backround on the Phantom and who he was it made the story so much better.
  2. They leave out the parts I love the most. Example: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.  Why didn’t Dobby talk about Harry losing his Wheezy? Why would they leave out such a little thing that shows how important Ron is to Harry? Makes no sense.  (I could go on forever with these examples in Harry Potter movies alone)
  3. The characters are not at all like I pictured in my head.  Example: Hunger Games. Peeta looks nothing like how I pictured.  He’s a little small for someone who was supposed to be so strong, although the actor is good. I ended up liking him but when you see him next to Gale it’s disconcerting. And don’t get me started on Jasper from Twilight. ‘Nuff said.
  4. They change the character’s motivation. This is a huge pet peeve of mine. Example:  In the Devil Wears Prada in the movie they make Miranda Priestly a lot more sympathetic than in the book.  Why change the basis of the character? She was mean. Leave it alone.
  5. If you don’t read the book I won’t understand the whole story. This is especially true with Fantasy or Paranormal books to movies.  I find they tend to leave out why certain things happen.  Example:  Okay I have to do it. One more HP reference.  I have no idea how anyone who saw just the Harry Potter movies had any idea what in the world was going on.  They left out so much, you needed a reference guide to find your way through.
So there it is. My rant about books to movies.  I could go on and on but I’m sure you’ve heard it all before.  What do you say? Do you always read the book first?

About the Author

Elena lives and writes in a suburb North of Los Angeles.  She has never lived anywhere besides California which is probably a good thing since she hates being cold and is terrified to drive in the snow. She loves being a wife and a mother to her three kids and three dogs, although really the bulldog is the fourth child who has never matured beyond the toddler stage.
A self-proclaimed nerd, she has been writing since she was a child. She has only recently, however, come out of the closet about this to her family and friends.  They now understand better, but not completely, why she talks about characters in stories as if they are real people.

  1. Breathe sounds like a very interesting book. :) Side note: I agree with everything about why you should read the book and not just wait for the movie. 2 - Yes, the list is never ending for things they left out of the Harry Potter movies that is frustrating, S.P.E.W. anyone?

  2. Yes! S.P.E.W.! Why would they leave that out? Seriously. Nice to know I'm not the only one that this bothers. =) Thank you so much Krisha and Katie for having me on your blog. I am enjoying your site!

  3. The premise of Breathe sounds great! I especially enjoyed the topic of ths guest post. I could not agree less! And the sad thing is that the authors don't have as much say since they sign these bizarre contracts. Thanks for sharing.

  4. So this is the first time I am hearing about this book and theres a movie? I agree that books are ALWAYS better than movies, I try to read the book first when I can even if it's not my usual read. I actually kind of feel stupid because Phantom of the Opera is one of my favorite musicals and I haven't read the book - hell I didn't even know there WAS a book. I must remediate this situation by reading the book IMMEDIATELY :( Anyway, this sound like a read that would totally creep me out (but in a good way) and I am now intrigued. I'm going to go dig out my hello kitty night light so that I will be able to get to bed after I read this book ;)
